What does it mean to be a Lounge Ambassador?
As a Lounge Ambassador, you’ll have the opportunity to develop personally and professionally while contributing to the international student community. As a Lounge Ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally, while playing a vital role in supporting and advocating for international students in Geelong. Our ambassadors are selected to represent the Lounge and contribute to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
Here’s what you can expect:
Leadership & Professional Development: Enhance your leadership and emotional intelligence skills through free training, and take part in Salvation Army projects and leadership programs.
Team Rotation: Gain experience in multiple areas by working across different teams, from managing social media to planning events and organizing excursions for international students.
Community Engagement: Attend a variety of community events and become aware of services and supports available to international students in Geelong.
Networking & Teamwork: Collaborate with other team members, build strong relationships, and work together to create a safe, inclusive environment at the Lounge.
Career Growth: Develop essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving to boost your CV. You’ll also receive an official job reference to support your future career.
Advocacy & Service: Act as a voice for international students, sharing insights and feedback with Lounge staff to help improve services and events. Assist in delivering high-quality support to all visitors.
Ethical Leadership: Uphold the values of The Salvation Army, demonstrating integrity, resilience, and a commitment to social justice in all your actions.
Who Can Become a Lounge Ambassador?
We welcome applications from current international students and recent graduates who are at least 18 years old. Ambassadors must be committed to the program throughout the year, with an average availability of 5 hours per week, though this may vary depending on the month.
To be eligible, all applicants must have a valid Working with Children Check (volunteer category) and be ready to represent the Lounge professionally. Ambassadors are expected to embody the core values of the Lounge, which include integrity, compassion, respect, diversity, and collaboration.
How to Apply:
The application process for the 2025 Lounge Ambassador Program is OPEN. Applications open in December each year.
You’ll need to fill out an online application form, submit a one-page CV/resume, and provide details of one personal or professional referee. Additionally, we ask applicants to create a short video (maximum 2 minutes) explaining why they would be a great fit for the ambassador role.
